Hi! The past few weeks, I've been doing some soul searching and trying to find my inspiration for Fun Usual Suspects. While I really enjoy working with clay and have learned so much in the last year with my little venture, I have decided to go in a slightly different direction and turn this into something that truly reflects my heart and the things that inspire me.
Recently I have learned a few things about myself that I wanted to share so you better understand my designs and thought process. While I can spend hours pouring over Pinterest looking for new things to make and will constantly be looking for the next 'thing' that I think other people will like, and there is nothing wrong with that, I have found myself starting to lose my voice and my creative spark by only making versions of things that someone else had originally created. I know I was starting to miss the joy of simply bringing new art into the world because I didn't really feel like it was entirely MY idea. I was becoming more craftsman and less artist. Remaking the same item over and over again isn't the most fulfilling thing in the world. I'm happy to do it but after the 25th Catbug bracelet, I can get a little bit annoyed with his adorable little self. I long to see my own ideas and creations made real. So... Over the coming weeks, I (with some help from my clever and witty boyfriend Trevor) will be introducing some of my very own brand new characters in digital, print and clay forms. They will be complete characters, with fun facts, background story and attitude. There will be a sprinkling of characters you already recognize from pop culture and some that might be a bit more obscure, a lot of animals and possibly a few inanimate objects. I'm excited to be on this road and can't wait to get this party started!
